Very exciting news from the ISS art world! Students, parents, and teachers are invited to participate in a new visual art project. Ms. Caz has created a Community Art Page on her blog to showcase artwork done outside of regular lessons and give parents and teachers an opportunity to share their talents. If you'd like to participate, please email Ms. Caz ([email protected]) with your submission. Don't forget to include your name and details (like grade level or whether you are a student or parent), as well as the title and media format of your work. Let's get creative!

Saturday, September 21 is the International Day of Peace. This day was first celebrated in 1982 to promote the ideals of peace and give positive evidence of the United Nations' commitment to peace. Each year, "Peace Day" continues to provide an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. In recognition and celebration of Peace Day 2013 at our school, Kindergarten 1 planned a performance and invited classes to participate in some peace-related activities. We displayed our thoughts about peace outside our classroom, shared books that related to peace, and asked other students to make drawn or written contributions so that we could compile them to make a big Peace Book.
One of our most important discussions that led to a lot of action was about what we can say to our friends to be peaceful. Here are our ideas: We also made a video which we showed in the assembly about what the International Day of Peace is and what peace means to us: After we showed the video, we sang a song called "Peace in My Fingers" which reminds us about all the ways that we can take action and be peaceful: Today we reflected on our participation in the Peace Day celebrations, including a discussion on our favourite part. Here's what we remember: K1AC wishes you a wonderful Peace Day and hopes that you continue to think about what peace means to you!
This week our classmate Emma has been sick at home. We have been missing her a lot and wishing that we could talk to her. We discussed what we could do to send her a message and had the idea to write her a letter! We wrote one letter as a whole class and learned about the different parts of a letter like the date, the greeting, and the sign-off. We also wrote individual letters where we included our own personal drawings and practiced writing our own name and Emma's name. After writing our letters we put them into an envelope that we coloured with crayon. Of course the envelope then went into our class mailbox to be delivered to Emma! |
